In his latest move in the tech industry, Elon Musk, the acclaimed American entrepreneur, is pioneering a fresh company called ‘xAI’. With a mission to explore the complexities of the universe, xAI marks a new chapter in Musk’s journey within the artificial intelligence landscape.
Collaboration with Musk’s Companies
Announced to the public on July 12, xAI is not going solo. It’s joining forces with several of Musk’s other popular companies, such as Twitter and Tesla. It aims to push forward in the exciting journey of uncovering the secrets of the universe. As part of its growth strategy, xAI is actively looking for talented engineers and researchers around the San Francisco Bay area to strengthen its technical team.
What sets xAI apart is its team. This group of professionals comes from globally recognized organizations including DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto. They’ve been a part of some big moments in AI history, introducing key methods like the Adam optimizer, Batch Normalization, and Layer Normalization. They also discovered adversarial examples, a major achievement in the field.

Their past successes aren’t limited to these though. They’ve had their hands in big projects such as AlphaStar, AlphaCode, Inception, Minerva, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4. xAI has a Twitter Space chat lined up for July 14, where more details about the venture are expected to be shared.
Musk’s Ambitious AI Endeavors
Earlier this year, on April 17, media revealed Musk’s work on a new language model. Named ‘TruthGPT’, this model aims to dig deep into the “hidden truths of the universe”. Moreover, Musk created TruthGPT as a response to what he believes is a ‘left-wing’ bias in AI. He suggested that some people are using ChatGPT to spread false information.
Just a week before launching xAI, on July 6, Musk stressed the need for stronger oversight on AI. He suggested that AI could potentially outsmart humans in every way in the future. He also emphasized the transformative potential of AI technologies, like self-driving cars and robots, in bringing about major changes in our world.
